BlogSWOT 6 – FarBlaze

farblaze1farblaze.blogspot.com is the site I will certainly remember for one thing: there I have seen one of the most silly videoclips ever. It’s under this link and for some reason has been already deleted from youtube.com.
Anyway, my analysis of the blog is following here:

S:
- VERY nice template

W:
- title does not tell me anything about your blog, the ‘about’ section either, so I do not know what I am visiting, why and what is your ’stuff’ about. There is nothing I can remember about you and nothing that will make me comeback (except from mentioned above videoclip, found by a chance).
- the tab ‘contact’ shows the blog – guess it’s an error

O:
- as your blog is about everything and nothing, you may have a great chance to attract big number of one-time visitors who will never comeback again. (I do not count here your friends and family).
- you may involve more forum section at your site – and your site in the forum section. Guess it would increase the number of your fans

T:
- any other more concrete and remarkable blog at the Web

BlogSWOT 5 – Whirled Peas

whirled-peas‘Whirled Peas is a blog, intended for those of a Green political bent or those who care about the environment to discuss the issues of the day and about how one can “Think Globally and Act Locally”.
Sounds great. Let’s take a closer look: http://www.whirledpeas.eu/

S:
- the template is wonderful, match very well the title of your blog, and looks very eco-friendly (!)
- quality writing – quality reading.
- a little detail – but I love it: the favicon (just realized that I would have one, too!)
- VERY interesting blogroll

W:
- in a way, I have an impression that you are not writing exactly and only about the environmental issues, as some of your entries are more about politics and have nothing to do with the subject of your blog. In that case I would change a bit the ‘about’ section.
- the design is great, but a bit dull - too dark.
- and the font would be a bit bigger to faciliate the reading

O:
- I find your site interesting as you seem to have a knowledge and understanding about the UK political and social/cultural issues, think that you may marketing yourself on those, not only on the environmental stuff
- getting loyal readers is the clue
- as your writing is so good, you may consider becoming a guest writer from time to time. In this way you may spread the word about your blog and yourself
- implementing more photos would make the site more living. Alternatively bright colours would light it up

T:
- frankly – cannot see any

BlogSWOT 4 – Verollete’s Closet

verollettes-closetA quick look into one woman’s ‘closet’: http://verolletescloset.blogspot.com/

S:

- your template is very nice, clean

- the title is good as well as your explanation of the title makes them both matc each other

- I like also the signature in ‘About’ section – it fits very well to your idea of the personal blog. I would even suggest placing the signature in the cover of your blog – it would create a good, personal ambiance.

W:

- saying that I like the template, I think at the same time that it actually … does not fit to your blog at all. The template is in the ‘magazine’ style, and it has nothing to do with being personal. At the same time, once the name of your blog refers to your closet, it automatically creates a vision of your closet which looks like the template. Does it? Even if I am usually strongly against the Barbie-alike design at many of the women’s sites, in case of your blog some kind of ‘feminine curves’ would be actually recommended. And also the blog-look (with text in the centre) instead of magazine style, would make more personal, direct impression.

- I think also that your photos are not very good. Very often they are completely out of proportions. Once you have the magazine-look, the high quality of the photos is crucial

- you may consder resigning from some of sidebar applications, they are unecesarily confusing

O:

- also in your case, the possible step to take would be implementing of some video shots with yourself.

- even if your blog is about everything, you may choose some leading topics in your writing, e.g. continue with the subject ‘Older Men Have a Lot to Offer’ (- as it’s controversial in the positive way), body ideals, Thailand, etc.

T:

- I think the threat for you is that apart from close friends and family you may receive the majority of the accidental visitors only. In order to find the visitors who comeback more often, your blog should have some feature(s) strong enough for others to remember – a leading topic, direction. You would need to ‘brand’ yourself on something, be recognized.

Hope it helps and wish you all the best with your blogging!

BlogSWOT 4 – Passive and Aggressive

passive-and-agressiveWhat do you think once you hear the name ‘Passive and Aggressive’? Personally I didn’t have a clue before checking the blog http://passiveandaggressive.blogspot.com/ . See its SWOT below:

S:

 - your style is  funny, interesting, amusing

- the header is intriguing

- it looks like you have created the community of your readers – the amount of comments you get is impressive.

W:

- the title of your blog: ‘Passive and Agressive’ makes me wonder about what your blog is really about: it could be all from psychoanalysis to the wild life in the jungle… I’m confused

- the design of your blog is simple, formal and the colours are dark. It does not necessarily fit to the blog that actually is supposed to be humorous, it could be a blog of a lawyer or a real estate company. I think you would improve it by giving some humorous elements at the first sight, e.g. cartoon- look or similar. And brighter colours – or contrasts.

O:

- not sure what would be your opportunities, as do not know what is your aim with your blog: in case you are writing for the family and friends – you’re already successful. In case you would like to go out to the broader audience, you may implement some blog marketing tricks, such as taking part in the blogging competitions, be more visible in blogging networks (as you do it in BC), etc, etc.

- as you’re very much yourself and showing yourself on the photos, I think the next step for you would be making short videos with yourself – it always adds life at the site.

T:

- it’s hard to say what the threats could be, guess any other humorous/personal blog could be a potential threat, but you have a devoted audience, so it does not really apply in your case. Just continue going into this direction and find more devoted readers, that’s all I believe.

BlogSWOT 3 – Vacation and Travel Photos

vacation-and-travel-photosYes, I like travelling – even if I’m not travelling too much that is why I also love to see great photos from exotic places. Once that is said, the SWOT of the site http://vacationandtravelphotos.blogspot.com/ follows below:

S:

- great header, clear and funky

- the idea itself is simple and good: to show the photos of the places you’ve visited.

W:

- I always say that and I will say it again: the blue is the colour of banking. Your blue background is … dull and official. If you could change it – go for it. You may choose another nuance of blue, e.g. lighter or go into black/grey colours. Your photos would be more visible there.

- I like your photos, but think your photo-collages are confusing. Single shots look best.

- I think also it’s confusing to read your text as it’s cut into pieces because of the pictures coming in between. Keep your photos at the side rather than in the middle, I suppose it would help.

O:

- I think that your blog would become much more attractive if you would write more personally, not only providing some information about the places you visit.

- noticed some guest-blogger entries – great idea to develop also into this direction. It would give as a result more posts and the whole little community of travellers exchanging experiences.

- like your ’souvenirs’ input. It’s sometimes much more interesting than the photos themselves. Think you may explore this niche much more.

T:

- I believe there is many blogs like yours, so you need perhaps to find your niche, which is always recommended. Think about the points listed in ‘O’ section. They may help you on the way. I hope they will…

BlogSWOT 2 – ‘Cooking For Assholes’

cooking-for-assholesWell, I got him – as he says himself.

He has been catched in my promise of making a BlogSWOT of his blog, http://cookingforassholes.blogspot.com/ and make his blogging life better.

Well, the below is what it ended with:

S:

- the idea is great: a cooking guide, very down-to-earth, a man’s approach to cooking, and ‘yes, it’s possible – even an asshole can do it!’ – message which sounds very trustworthy

- your photos are very good: look natural and at the same time look like actually the food tastes good. My own view is that photos are very essential in the cooking-guides, too artificial makes you feel unsure, too ‘natural’ can end in ‘disgusting’. Yours are very balanced.

- the blog design is clear/clean which is perfect in your case

W:

- well, first of all, think you really do not need to use so much of ‘f+´¨’  in your language. . It does not make too much sense to me, as your message comes through also without it

- your hair at the photo… I believe that a good cook with respect for himself should wear a hat or at least should not expose his hair as you do. In your case the possiblility of finding a hair in your food is too big. And please, do not tell me I am old-fashioned: it’s pure logic.

- think you may do some better categorising of your posts, not only into the meals as it is the case now, but also into the type of food, e.g. vegetables, meat, fish, etc. And the categories should be much more visible then they are now.

- also, in case you do not have the traditional list of ingredients specified, you may underline them in a way, so they are more visible. Right now they are lost in the text.

O:

- as you asked me:   ’Amongst other things I would like to know what I could possibly do different for expansion (e.g. beer/wine/liquor reviews, cooking product reviews, something that is not a review, etc.)’. And with this you actually answered yourself. Just go for it! Great idea with cooking products available in the supermarkeds – and your view of them based on own experience. You may add the review of the restaurants/bars you visit. Cooking books. Your recommendations, etc. etc.

- noticed that you have not too many comments, but your blog is pretty new as I can see. My advice is: work on connecting with your potential target group: try to define who is it (who are those assholes: men, women, in Portland only, how old? etc.)

- you may also involve your visitors - I noticed the post where you suggest them submitting their miserable photos to you and you will make their disaster-dishes rock - this one should be ’sticky’, or somewhere in your sidebar. Use it as your own marketing tool in the forum discussions, etc. I’m sure it’s going to work! Great idea…

T:

- there are many sites with recipes at the Web, the google-keyword competition is strong. I would suggest focusing on your local area and brand yourself as a cooking dude from Portland. Then you’ll find your niche.

In case your goal is to attract more traffic to your blog, suggest also taking a look at this post about the importance of keywords. In this blog you’ll generally find a lot of tips for better blogging. In case you don’t (damn) care, just leave it…

SEO Pack for a Newbie – the Very First Steps, part 1

basic_seo_informationAs promised, I would like to share with you, dear readers, my first steps into the SEO jungle. I had some correspondence with Timon from buyers-web.com about SEO approach for my website wwomenglobally.com, where he answered my VERY ‘SEO-green’ questions. Please find fragments of this conversation below, I hope that you can use it to something.

Timon:
TIP 1: First of all I would make all urls seo friendly by going into permalinks in wordpress admin and selecting custom – specify below- and then adding /%postname%/. And at the end press update, of course.

TIP 2: After that write down about 100 keywords related to your area, or use a keyword tool, for each of these keyword phrases do a unique post on each one.. So alot of posts would be about women in many aspects..
With this one I mean write down a brainstorm of keywords people may search on … Do not use meta tags as search engines do not use these any more.
As you are focused on women write questions people may ask in that niche to draw traffic and do posts about these questions, e.g.
Pregnancy steps for women – 1 post
How mums can help there kids with school – 1 post

etc, etc..
These above are just examples but relate to your niche in a way.. as you can see these sort of titles would be searched in the search engines. People tend to generally ask questions to the search engines so this is a good way to generate search engine traffic, a keyword search tool is a way of searching on keywords people use in the serps. One I reccommend is the one in adwords account, but you can just go here to see results for the keyword: women.

TIP 3: Then after that I would recommend commenting on about 50 blogs related to yours regularily for a few weeks.

TIP 4: After that keep blog posting as well as keep building backlinks by comments.

to be continued…

A letter to Nadya Suleman – by salomey5

suleman-websiteIt was one of the very few times when I read a blog post THAT long and still could not get enough of it. Dear Nadya Suleman… I left you a comment written by salomey5 is a masterpiece. It is written in the very sarcastic style - so typical for salomey5 – and it refers to the fact that the ‘Octomom’ has recently established a website on which she has placed some ‘donate’ buttons. salomey5 writes a comment to be submitted to Nadya Suleman and in her note she also reveals some hidden passions she has, which are so much close to Nadya’s…

Additional note: as checked today, it is no longer possible to enter TheNadyaSulemanFamily website. It has been closed until further notince.

BlogSWOT 1- ‘Finding Fruitcake’

finding-fruitcakeThe first BlogSWOT is the reality (below). Dear Jamie, thank you very much for your confidence and hope you can manage my critic.

BlogSWOT of http://findingfruitcake.blogspot.com/

S:
- very good structure of the site – clear, logical
- the short description of categories is absolutely great. It makes the blog readible, it makes you trustworthy
- good style of writing, very interesting thoughts
- your posts are not too short and not too long, which is perfect for the reader – I believe

W:
- the first sentence of your ABOUT makes me confused and actually a bit angry as I do not agree with it and do not like that you are talking on behalf of all women and about all women: I am simply a woman and we all know women are crazy (thus the name fruitcake). Also cannot see the connection between being crazy and the fruitcake – is it because of the US idiom I do not know as an European?
- your pink/violet is not a friendly colour. Neither for the eyes nor for the ambiance. Personally I do not believe that once you’re writing about woman/women, it requires pink/violet nuances allover the place.
- I find it as a weakness that your banner is different from the badge you use.

O:
- as your writing style is excellellent, you may consider going BlogHer
- you may say it’s a competely crazy suggestion, but since you have a word fruitcake in your blog name, you may also consider including some cake-recipes at your site. It would be controversial but could result in some extra clicks from the group of visitors you would never expect.

T:
- I believe – any other personal blog is a threat. Your strenght lies in finding new, devoted followers/fans. It’s the only one advice I believe: keep gaining them.

Russian Women vs. Gifts for Men

Russian WomenAs I mentioned  in my previous post, my guide through the SEO-jungle has been Timon from the buyers-web.com. One of the tips I have got from him was the one about the use of the theme-related keywords in my posts.

As my overall theme for the site http://www.wwomenglobally.com/ are women, I simply made a search for this keyword in the search based google tool.  And the result I got made me a bit … confused. Why?

The absolute number 1 in this category is the keyword: RUSSIAN WOMEN with 54.000 monthly searches. What more – the tool allows to go deeper into details and e.g. find out that the top countries interested in RUSSIAN WOMEN are Syria, Pakistan, Czech Republic, UAE, South Africa. The most used searches for RUSSIAN WOMEN are:  russian girls, free russian women, dating russian women, russian dating. ..

Deeply astonished (or maybe should I expect to see it, or what?) I made the equal search for the word MEN. What I got at the first position was: GIFTS FOR MEN. The detailed search showed me that the countries most searching this keyword were UK, US, South Africa, Ireland, New Zealand. The most used combination of keywords here were: gifts for men, valentine gifts, Christmas gifts, gifts for him, anniverasary gifts, etc.

In both categories the very stable position have the keywords: BLACK WOMEN WHITE MEN as well as OLDER WOMEN YOUNGER MEN.

Well, am I naive saying that it looks like it tells a bit about the invisible logic of the world today? Do we really achieve the point where e.g. the keyword BUSINESS WOMEN will be at least in top 20 and GIFTS FOR WOMEN at least in top 10?

In any case, now I have the most wanted keywords at my site. And I am warmly welcoming all the accidental visitors!
